So watching the eighties film, Heathers, starring Winona Ryder inspired me to blog. Winona’s character, Veronica Sawyer is the dark humored, brooding teen in her shallow high school clique. What makes Heathers an iconic fashion film, is that each member of the clique “Heathers” dresses mainly in one color – Veronica’s being blue.
In order to pull of a Veronica Sawyer look, you’ll need plenty of dark colored clothing to balance out your brights- black, gray, light gray, and navy for instance. To avoid the often tacky nature of the eighties, I’ve modernized a few concepts that leave out huge shoulder pads and wool plaid blazers.
However, I did keep a few pieces that can still be seen as stylish today – a ruffled skirt, bowler hat, and rosette pin. Any of these items can bring instant pizazz (yeah, I said it) to a monochrome ensemble.
The collection above uses timeless pieces such as blazers, tights, maryjanes and vests to bring out the preppy vibe. Each article of clothing is under $50, making a Veronica Sawyer inspired outfit attainable for even the most poor college student (cough cough).
