Do you remember the days when you were little and your mom would let you dress yourself? Or maybe Mom took over because you had a zany habit of mixing all sort of patterns? Well it’s time to channel your inner child because mixing prints is now the trendy thing to do. While some high fashion editorials feature outfits that may make you question the stylist’s decision, there is a way to wear mixed prints without looking like you got dressed in the dark.
Firstly, you’ve got to have an open mind. You never know what will look good together until you see it on! My awesome friend Deanna put together today’s outfit at my first hosted Lula Roe party and I couldn’t be more happy. I was hesitant at first because I usually like a bold color and a patterned bottom that matches, so the idea of using two pieces that featured different sized patterns was a new world to me. Deanna gave me this advice: “Use one thing that has a big print and one thing that has a smaller print.” It was that simple!
My top and leggings are both LulaRoe (naturally) and my shoes are from Payless. I’m so glad Deanna chose this outfit for me because I think each piece on their own can be styled in so many other ways.
Still not sure about print mixing? Check out these other ideas featuring animal print, plaid, floral, and stripes! Based on these looks, if you’re unsure about if a print can go together 1) start off by matching the colors like in the first example and 2) find one color in the busier print that matches the more subdued (like the navy in the second).
